My Question
“How can I effectively use technology to engage students in writing?”
It was important for me to narrow my question in a way that was more focused in order to conduct more specific research on my topic. So far I have discovered resources from my muses; Elyse Eidman-Aadahl and David Rose. These muses have published extensively and conducted research in writing and UDL. Elyse Eidman-Aadahl is associated with the National Writing Project that incorporates technology in the digital world into writing. There is an emphasis on design, collaboration, and sharing to improve and publish writing. New ways to create writing have been developed and should be considered with writing in the classroom. David Rose has made contributions to the UDL Framework. Students should be engaged in writing. It is important that learning is presented and learned in a variety of ways. Digital media provides many different ways to meet the needs of learners through modeling, scaffolding, progress monitoring, feedback, assessment, and presentation. These aspects and resources have helped begin my journey to help my students become 21st century digital writers.

Me!
I live in Hartsville, South Carolina in a small town about
15 minutes away from my school. My
school is located in Darlington, South Carolina right behind the racetrack that
is Too Tough To Tame! Darlington is a
very rural and the students zoned for my school are mostly high poverty.
I teach all subjects of 2nd grade at Pate
Elementary School. My school is a Title
I school. My district is currently in
the process of trying to roll out 1 to 1 technology, with iPads in the lower
grades. In the 2013-14 school year, I was
able to participate in the Pilot program with the iPads. I was successfully
able to use an LMS and integrate technology and research more in my
classroom. Unfortunately I switched
schools and was not able to take them with me last year. Luckily, I just received news that I am
receiving a classroom set of iPads for the 2015-16 school year.
I am a fully online student at Lesley pursuing my Masters in
Educational Technology. I have two
classes left in this program after this semester.
My hobbies include reading, singing, art, and
exploring. I have a loving boyfriend,
Everett, and two playful Yorkies, Buddy and Tucker. I love to travel when I can, even if it is
just the beach for the weekend.
